NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER

A Thanksgiving Blessing

It's cold outside, but it's warm in my heart.

And the gray fall sky is His work of art.

Laden and low, quiet and still,

November is welcome, and my eyes drink their fill

Of brown-gray grass and red-orange leaves,

Of pavement winding through the strong, stately trees.

Down the hill, past the barn, past the gate, up the lane,

The house with bright candles in each window pane.

Now I step inside; oh, it's warm! Oh, that smell!

Hot turkey roasting, potatoes done well!

Sweet, spicy cider, and warm winter wine

Cranberry sauce - Oh! - the flavors - divine!

The smiles and hugs are so warm and sweet.

In this cold gray November, a Thanksgiving treat.

I do love it all and am so thankful; yes,

For this lovely season...I am truly blessed.

The Hunger Run

Fred Beekman Park at The Ohio State University

We’ll start the 5k run/walk at 9:00 a.m. More information to follow

This season we are reminded to be thankful, so NSI wanted to share some of the things we are most grateful for…

1. Our neighbors, we are thankful for them in our lives and the opportunity to serve them.

2. Our volunteers, we couldn’t get through the day-by-day without our faithful volunteers.

3. Our donors, we are able to serve and love our neighbors because of your support.

4. Chickens/Turkeys! We had a “Thanksgiving miracle” this year. With the push of St. Stephens, the generosity of our churches and individuals, we were able to give out chickens/turkeys for Thanksgiving this year after all!

5. Prayers of support, so many of our churches along with individuals are praying faithfully for us.

6. Meijer, Seventh Son, One Line Coffee, City BBQ, Dirty Franks, and all the amazing companies/organizations that are putting on fundraisers for us!

7. Kroger, Target, Aldi, Dan the Baker, Pepperidge Farm, and all our retail relationships for donating food every week.

8. Our Interns, Lucy and Naomi. These girls have jumped right in to helping out the pantry and planning the upcoming Hunger Run. They have put in so much time and effort to make this run a success. We are so excited and thankful!

9. Our community, we are thankful for the support and excitement we have from the community to help and to keep NSI going.

10. Susan Kreis and Kurt Brown. Our madam President and board member are both stepping down from the board this term and we are so unbelievably grateful for all the work that they have put into NSI. Their faithful service is so appreciated and we can’t express how thankful for them we are.

At this event, with your help, we will raise enough to feed 2,445 people. This year, we have Chefs from across the community, including one that worked in the kitchen of a Michelin 3 star restaurant. It's an opportunity to see Chefs prepare their signature dish LIVE and get to taste it too. We hope you are able to join us for this engaging event, while also ensuring we continue to provide an emergency 5-day supply for our neighbors in need.

Meet Ms. Andrea, our first neighbor in our new series “Humans of the Neighborhood”. Inspired by the photography project Humans of New York, NSI has started to collect stories and pictures of neighbors. Here is her story…
“My family and I had a real bad carbon monoxide leak, I ended up losing my dog. We were going house to house to house, I was spending all my money on hotels and the pantry helped us a lot. The food pantry provides food for me and my children to eat and keep us healthy.”

August Newsletter

As we coast into autumn we are reflecting on the summer. We feel so incredibly blessed to have friends like you to help us during a very busy time. Summers are always more hectic with kids not being in school, but this summer we really felt the strain on our budget. However, with your help we have been able to provide over 397,832 meals this year! With that being said, there are going to be a few changes to the pantry starting in September. Beginning in September we will be providing a 5-day supply of food instead of a 7-day supply. We have continued to grow throughout the years, but we have come to a point where we just don’t have the funding to continue giving out as much as we used to. We will continue to keep you up to date with everything going on in the pantry. Make sure to follow our social media any updates in between Newsletters! This summer was a trying time, we are SO thankful for your support and prayers. We truly could not do the work without you.

Agriculture and Nutrition Act of 2018

Hello friends and supporters!
We are writing to let you know about something that is going to impact our neighbors and community. There is a new bill called the "Agriculture and Nutrition Act of 2018" that is going to push a lot of people towards the pantry. Once this goes through, we will see a major surge in neighbors in need.
We have posted the press statement from Ohio Association of Foodbanks for you to read. We will also post a link to the bill so you can read over it yourself.
